My name is Willie Hurt and I am a recent graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in journalism. Throughout my time at FAMU, I had the opportunity to report stories, produce television content, host live radio broadcasts, and write for multiple publications. This experience helped shape me to know what kind of journalist I want to become—one who uses storytelling to create conent that holds value and pushes for new perspectives.

For me, journalism has always been about more than delivering the news. I believe every person has a story worth telling, especially those whose experiences are often overlooked or misunderstood. My goal is to bring light to stories that might otherwise go untold, amplify voices that deserve to be heard, and create conversations that leave people and communities better informed than before.

Outside of journalism, I’m proud to serve as a member of Progressive Black Men, Inc., where I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to initiatives focused on leadership, mentorship, and community engagement. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that meaningful impact doesn’t stop when the camera is off or the story is published. At the end of the day, I hope my work helps people feel seen, heard, and understood—and leaves every community I cover a little stronger than I found it.
